Miami Dolphins lay cornerstones of rebuild in 7-round 2020 mock draft
By Lucas Schuh
The departure of longtime Dolphins defensive end Cameron Wake left the edge pass-rushing department in a bad spot for Miami. Over the course of 2019, they took swings to try and start fixing the issue, including signing former first-round pick Taco Charlot off of waivers. Unfortunately, despite five sacks, Charlton’s overall performance was nothing to write home about.
One bright spot at the position, however, has been young Vince Biegel. Already, he’s proven to be a solid pass rusher off of the edge. With that said, Miami’s defense is still lacking the big-time playmaker on the edge right now.
Darrell Taylor is a bull-rushing machine coming off the edge. He will immediately get his hands into the shoulders of an offensive tackle with great hand-placement and take control of the matchup. The only issue with the Tennessee product is that his bull rush is not just his best move but really his only move right now. His counters need work both with technique and timing.
One thing that Dolphins head coach Brian Flores will love about Taylor is his versatility off the edge as he’s capable of being deployed either as a standup rusher or a base defensive end with his hand in the dirt. While he’s nothing more than a fine run defender, Miami would take Taylor based on what he offers as a pass-rusher and he would be a great asset for the defense.
