4. New York Jets

First things first, the Jets must do everything they can to protect their young quarterback, Sam Darnold. In his second season in the NFL, Darnold was under duress far more than New York would’ve liked, so drafting an offensive lineman should be the team’s No. 1 priority this coming April.

After finishing the 2019 season with a final record of 7-9, the Jets hold the 11th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. With the performance Tristan Wirfs displayed at the NFL Scouting Combine, it’s hard to imagine he’d make it out of the top 10 during the draft.

That said, if Wirfs does manage to slip out of the first 10 selections, New York shouldn’t think twice about selecting the former Hawkeye. The Jets currently have one of the worst offensive lines on paper, and virtually every position up front is up for grabs heading into next season.

Pro Football Focus ranked New York’s offensive line as the 28th-best unit during the 2019 regular season. The Jets averaged a measly 0.7 rushing yards before contact per carry, the worst mark of any team in the entire league. Drafting Wirfs makes a world of sense. He’d step in on Day 1 and improve both the running and passing game.
