3. Denver Broncos

Just like the Jets need to protect Darnold, the Denver Broncos must do everything in their power to protect Drew Lock. Entering his second year as a pro in 2020, Lock will have more expectations than his rookie season. That said, the Broncos will need to provide him with ample protection if he’s to take a notable step forward in Year 2.

The Broncos invested in right tackle Ja’Wuan James in free agency last offseason, but he spent most of the 2019 season on the sidelines with a knee injury. Meanwhile, left tackle Garett Bolles has mostly been a liability since being drafted in the first round in 2017.

Additionally, the Broncos declined Ronald Leary‘s 2020 contract options and will allow him to walk away in free agency this offseason. The move saves Denver over $8 million in cap space but, again, has its offensive line in a tough position moving forward and as something that must be addressed.

The Broncos hold the 15th overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft thanks to a 7-9 final record in 2019. The chances of Tristan Wirfs falling to the 15th overall pick are pretty slim, but if he does reach that far down the board the Broncos shouldn’t hesitate to take him. Wirfs would step in Day 1 as a starter inside at guard with the possibility of taking over at right tackle by mid-season.
