1. New England Patriots

While the Bills, and possibly the New York Jets, struggle to overthrow New England, Bill Belichick and the Patriots will reload in free agency. No matter who starts at quarterback for the team this fall, the Patriots need an heir to Rob Gronkowski‘s position.

Some people expected Gronkowski would return from his retirement for a late Super Bowl push in 2019. However, the future Hall of Fame tight end did not dust off his cleats, and the Patriots fell in the Wild Card Round. With only Julian Edelman and James White as reliable receiving threats, Brady struggled.

Even with so many expiring contracts, the Patriots only possess $41.65 million in cap space. The team won’t spend frivolously. While some people consider a quality tight end to be a luxury, the tight end position played an essential role in New England’s offense for years. Arguably, that position means more in the team’s offense than any other.

While landing Henry makes a lot of sense for New England, the free-agent tight end may avoid the organization. With no guaranteed quarterback in 2020 and holes opening up on the defensive side of the ball, 2020 won’t offer the usual dominant rendition of the Patriots. Henry might bypass the retooling organization in favor of a solidified winning team.
