2020 NFL Mock Draft, post-Combine: Raiders trade up, Redskins move back
(via Dolphins) Jedrick Wills did not have the best Combine, especially as so many of his other peers shined. However, the last thing a team can afford to do is overthink testing, especially when it wasn’t necessarily poor, and overlook film. That’s the case with Wills and Washington, who now sits at No. 5 and may need a replacement for Trent Williams at tackle. At Alabama, Wills was a stalwart and I trust that more than a bad week in Indianapolis.
The Chargers’ options at quarterback seem to be dwindling by the day. Philip Rivers is gone, Tom Brady is far from a certainty and it’s hard to say what other options would be. So Justin Herbert is the clear pick after a great week at the NFL Combine.
While there have been questions about the Oregon product’s leadership, all of the tools to play quarterback at a high level are present. His leadership style might be a quiet one but Herbert deserves faith in Los Angeles that he can be the right signal-caller to lead the franchise forward.
Man, Derrick Brown did not test well at the Combine. But that’s not going to affect his stock all of that much when it comes to this NFL Mock Draft. His tape while at Auburn is that impressive.
Brown is an elite penetrator and disruptor on the interior, capable of exploding off of the line and overpowering opponents in the trenches. The Panthers have invested in the defensive line plenty over the years but still need help with a playmaker there. Despite his numbers in Indianapolis, Brown showed everything in college to make you believe he can be that player.
TRADE ALERT: Raiders send No. 12, 80, 111 to Cardinals for No. 8
Few players were as impressive at the NFL Combine than Clemson linebacker Isaiah Simmons. The way he can move and explode at his size is just uncommon and, when you factor that into his film and the numerous facets of the defense he succeeded in, he should easily be a top-10 pick.
The Raiders, as they prepare to move to Las Vegas, need that type of presence in the middle of their defense. They’ve been lacking at linebacker for what feels like an eternity and they fix that with one trade up for Simmons. Even better, they keep their extra first-round pick to make the move.
