The Packers may need to start planning for life after Bryan Bulaga. The right tackle is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent when the NFL’s new league year begins on March 18. If Green Bay doesn’t re-sign Bulaga, they’ll need a capable starter on the right side of the offensive line.

Drafting Boise State offensive tackle Ezra Cleveland at pick No. 94 is one of the better scenarios Green Bay could hope for if they fail to retain Bulaga. Cleveland started at left tackle for the past three seasons, surrendering just 12 quarterback pressures on 502 pass-blocking snaps in 2019, according to Pro Football Focus (subscription required).

Cleveland is one of the better pass protectors in this year’s draft class. With nimble feet, he displayed an excellent performance at the NFL Combine. His 40-yard dash (4.93 seconds), bench press (30 reps) and 3-cone (7.26 seconds) were all top five for offensive linemen.

Cleveland (6-6, 310 pounds) fits the Packers’ zone-blocking running scheme, as well. The biggest knock against him is the fact that he didn’t go against strong competition in college. Some experts also suggest he may need to put on 10 or more pounds of lean muscle to hold up against NFL-caliber pass-rushers.
