New York Giants build around Daniel Jones in post-Combine 7-round 2020 mock draft
By Lucas Schuh
The wide receiver group in New York is solid but not without still needing some help. However, with the elite receivers in the 2020 NFL Draft off the board in the first two rounds, the key is to look for players who can be mismatches at the next level. It’s clear that Chase Claypool possesses that type of skill-set.
Claypool may have been one of the biggest risers of the class after the NFL Combine. Heading to Indianapolis, he appeared to be a late-round pick but now could go off the board as early as the third round. Claypool, at 6-4, 238 pounds, ran an extremely impressive 4.42-second 40-yard dash while posting a 40-inch vertical jump.
If Claypool were to fall to the Giants at the beginning of the fourth round, New York should be quick to snatch him up. He would give the Big Blue offense a receiver that can be a matchup nightmare with his combination of size and speed.
Other Players Available: Eno Benjamin, Thaddeus Moss, Kenny Willekes
Taking someone to address the need on the edge for the Giants was only a matter of time and value. Prior to the fifth-round, the combo of value and need at other positions was too great to pass up. But with Khalid Kareem here, they have to make the pick.
Kareem was a solid pass rusher while playing for the Fighting Irish. Kareem’s go-to move in college was his bull rush, which he used effectively and was able to pair it with good burst. He also has the baseline traits for other pass-rush moves but needs to work on becoming technically sound in those regards to consistently win outside of the bull rush in the NFL.
It’s highly unlikely Kareem comes in and dominates NFL offensive tackles but he can still help a Giants pass rush that is devoid of any consistent playmakers at this time. He can make some impact early on and has the chance to be a solid, consistent player soon into his career.
