2. Kyler Fackrell

The 2019 offseason marked the moment that general manager Brian Gutekunst put his stamp on the Green Bay Packers roster. Whereas his predecessor, Ted Thompson, was notorious for not spending in free agency, Gutekunst made big, aggressive moves on the open market last season. And two of those moves were addressing the team’s need to upgrade their pass rush off the edge.

Green Bay landed Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith by inking them to hefty free-agent contracts and, after one year, the returns on those investments have been quite profitable. The duo known as the Smith Bros showed out in the 2019 season, leading the team in sacks as the former finished with 13.5 and the latter ended up with 12. But with their emergence, Kyler Fackrell fell by the wayside.

After registering 10.5 sacks in the 2018 season, Fackrell played fewer than 40 percent of Green Bay’s defensive snaps this past season and the 2016 third-round pick made little impact when on the field. He finished this past year with only one sack and 23 total tackles. And now slated to hit unrestricted free agency, he could be cut loose.

Not only do the Packers have the Smith Bros under contract but they also spent a first-round pick on Rashan Gary last offseason. Subsequently, they are not only stout on the edge at the top of the depth chart but have promising depth. That makes Fackrell expendable and a highly likely candidate to let walk on the open market.
