Los Angeles Chargers: Tyrod Taylor

Los Angeles Chargers fans won’t be happy with me for this selection. But I promise this is not a slight at the Chargers’ current players. The problem is they have too many good, well-known players that I can’t confidently call any of them underrated. Their other ancillary pieces, though, are not good enough to make this list.

Justin Jackson and Troymaine Pope didn’t do enough to maintain a role in this backfield. Geremy Davis, Andre Patton and Jason Moore were solid, but I can’t see them entering the starting lineup. Virgil Green and Lance Kendricks also aren’t suitable replacements for Hunter Henry; they are just depth pieces.

So, by default, I am going to mention Tyrod Taylor. Many Chargers fans will want to find a big-name free agent to replace Philip Rivers at quarterback or draft Justin Herbert with their No. 6 overall pick. Yet, I think Taylor could be a serviceable stopgap option for the Chargers and lead them to a winning record this season.

Taylor threw 54 touchdowns to 20 interceptions during his career, rushed for over 1,800 yards in his three seasons with the Bills, and played under Anthony Lynn in Buffalo. Arguably, he will be an upgrade over what Rivers was last season and can be successful behind a mediocre offensive line. Taylor may not be a “sexy” name to put on this list, but he’s an offensive weapon that the Chargers should be happy they have under contract.
