New England Patriots: N’Keal Harry

If the New England Patriots were desperate for one thing last year, it was offensive weaponry. The offense had cycled through many different combinations of running backs, wide receivers, and tight ends, but nobody aside from the perpetually consistent Julian Edelman stepped up to take the heat off of Tom Brady. Despite having a top-five defense, the lack of talent on the offensive side was the main contributor to the Patriots’ downfall this past season.

Yet, there were still some underrated talents on the roster who I believe will have better success next season. While I thought about putting Jakobi Meyers, who contributed 26 receptions for 359 yards as an undrafted rookie, on this list, I don’t know if he will make the 2020 roster as the Patriots reload this offseason. Instead, I went with their 2019 first-round pick N’Keal Harry.

While Harry had some hype coming into the season, he became long forgotten once he was placed on Injured Reserve to begin the year and the Patriots had to deal with the Josh Gordon and Antonio Brown debacles. When he returned, he didn’t have nearly as much time to adapt to the complicated Josh McDaniels playbook to make a true impact.

Harry is a 6-4 wide receiver who should see a greater role as a complimentary outside threat in the offense. He became more heavily relied upon as the weeks went on, seeing seven targets in the Patriots’ playoff loss to Tennessee. If Brady returns, I believe Harry could become a solid weapon opposite whatever prize receiver New England acquires in free agency or the draft.
