San Francisco 49ers: Jalen Hurd

The San Francisco 49ers surprised a lot of people this year, not only with their incredible run to the Super Bowl but with the breakout players they fielded along the way.

Deebo Samuel went from a second-round rookie to one of the most versatile young receivers in the NFL and Raheem Mostert came out of nowhere to deliver a 220-yard rushing performance in the NFC Championship Game. Kyle Shanahan is known for making the most out of his players, and there may be another weapon on the roster that he could mold into an offensive threat in 2020.

Many of you, outside of the 49ers-faithful, may not know Jalen Hurd. He was drafted in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft but missed the entire season with an injury. While he didn’t make an impact this year, he could develop into a viable starter over the course of this offseason.

The 6-4, 230-pound prospect is a hyper-athletic jack of all trades. There was talk after the draft that he may be converted to tight end given his build and blocking acumen. However, he was also a big, physical receiver in college who could line up all over the formation. His skillset is reminiscent of Samuel’s, as his versatility would open up the playbook even more for Shanahan.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he cracks the starting lineup and overtakes Kendrick Bourne as the third receiver on the depth chart. His multifaceted skillset will be a solid addition to the 49ers offensive unit and he could become an important weapon for Jimmy Garoppolo in 2020.
