Washington Redskins: Steven Sims Jr.

The Washington Redskins experienced massive turnover on the offensive side of the ball in 2019, as multiple different receivers, tight ends, and offensive linemen were thrust into the lineup due to injuries and poor play. While rookie Terry McLaurin stole headlines with his sensational 58-catch, 900-yard season, Washington developed another rookie receiver who impressed towards the end of the year.

Steven Sims Jr. went undrafted out of Kansas and landed in Washington to work behind a weak receiver depth chart. After Paul Richardson and Trey Quinn missed multiple games with injuries, Sims saw more playing time and produced in his limited role.

In his last four games, Sims saw 36 total targets and caught 20 balls for 230 yards; he also managed four touchdowns in the last three games alone. Sims is a small, shifty receiver who was able to get open with excellent route-running and change of direction. He played a nice compliment to the larger outside receiver in McLaurin.

While the Redskins are likely to add more pass catchers to the roster this offseason, Smith’s breakout may garner him a sizable role come next season. He could be a reliable outlet over the middle of the field for Dwayne Haskins and develop as a solid slot weapon for Washington.
