Chicago Bears: Javon Wims

The Chicago Bears offense was abysmal in 2019. They ranked 25th in passing yards per game, 27th in rushing yards per game, and 29th in points per game. There weren’t many bright spots to the offense outside of Allen Robinson, who accumulated 98 receptions for 1,147 yards and seven touchdowns in 2019.

Yet, there is another receiver on the roster who I believe has the potential to make an impact next season. Javon Wims, the Bears’ 2018 seventh-round draft pick out of Georgia, didn’t get much playing time last season. He only caught 18 of 39 targets for 186 yards and one touchdown, with the majority of his production coming in the four games where he received at least five targets.

Wims was a big-bodied target for Mitch Trubisky, as the 6-3 receiver was relied upon for jump balls and contested catches on the outside. Despite catching less than half of his targets, he showed promise in his limited action, utilizing his athleticism and catch radius to grab inaccurate passes.

The Bears should continue to build the remainder of their receiving core, as Robinson and Anthony Miller are the only wideouts on the roster who caught more than 40 passes last year. Nevertheless, Wims is an intriguing project who could double his receiving output next year if given the right opportunity.
