Every NFL team’s most underrated offensive weapon entering 2020
Cleveland Browns: Kareem Hunt
I am going to be honest: There were not many underrated names on the Cleveland Browns. They were heavily scrutinized by the media and mainly stuck to their top-tier personnel throughout the season, so not many depth pieces rose through the cracks. While guys like Rashard Higgins, Dontrell Hilliard and Ricky Seals-Jones did see playing time, they didn’t jump off the page as solid contributors.
Nonetheless, I think Kareem Hunt should qualify as an underrated offensive weapon given we barely saw him in 2019. After being suspended for the first eight games of the season, Hunt returned to a 2-6 Browns team that was desperately trying to squeak into the playoffs. He sat behind Nick Chubb, who was the NFL’s second-leading rusher last season.
Still, Hunt carved out a solid role in this offense and should build on it once he plays a full slate of games next season. Hunt averaged 4.2 yards per carry and 7.7 yards per reception as he played mostly in two-back sets with Chubb. He was able to average over four receptions per game and score three touchdowns despite the limited snap share.
It may be long forgotten how impactful Hunt was as a player for the Kansas City Chiefs, but he is still a talented running back who is only entering his fourth year in the league. While he’s a restricted free agent and likely to stay in Cleveland, I can see him garnering a greater role in Kevin Stefanski’s offense and becoming a key weapon for the Browns in 2020.
