Tyler Johnson. 5. player. 852. Scouting Report. Wide Receiver. Pick Analysis. Minnesota

Even if Emmanuel Sanders is brought back, San Francisco’s wide receiver group could use some help. Sanders performed well after arriving with the 49ers via trade but, at 33 years old and with an injury history, it’s hard to bank on him being a high-level performer for much longer. And even then, there’s a good chance he’s not with the Niners for the 2020 season.

Tyler Johnson is one of the most divisive prospects in the 2020 NFL Draft as many people have different views on the Minnesota Golden Gophers wide receiver. Depending on who you ask, some analysts (or even teams) have Johnson as a late-round pick due to his limited athletic profile while others have him is an easy Day 2 prospect because of his talents as a route-runner and his ability to release so well.

Despite the division, Johnson is obviously a talented pass-catcher. He has one of the best releases in the 2020 draft class and his route-running is a top-notch trait. The Minnesota product also knows when to gear up or gear down, also possessing a knack for sinking his hips on routes at the exact right moment.

Adding Johnson and his route-running to the San Francisco offense would be a fantastic move for the 49ers. Even if Sanders does end up back in the Bay Area, Johnson could be a vertical threat down the field with his ability to get free while also being a threat in the middle of the field who’s able to get himself open on the basis of his route-running.

Other Players Available: Trajan Bandy, Harrison Hand, Myles Bryant
