Utah State. 5. player. 42. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Linebacker. David Woodward

The 49ers have what you’d consider a solid linebacker group. Kwon Alexander is a quality player but one who suffers from bouts of inconsistency, specifically with his tackling. Fred Warner is similar to Alexander in that he offers a lot in coverage but he isn’t as inconsistent as Alexander.

David Woodward has a lot of traits and abilities that NFL teams love. He is extremely rangy with great lateral quickness. Woodward is also fairly explosive and knows how to shoot the gaps. Perhaps Woodward’s greatest trait is his football IQ as he’s a quick processor, which allows him to be in the right place at the right time.

The one major concern around Woodward is his injury history. Woodward had issues with concussions and also missed the 2019 season due to a season-ending injury. Adding Woodward to this roster with a late-round pick would be a great addition for the 49ers because of the possible talent you could be getting, presenting San Francisco with great value.

Other Players Available: Jabari Zuniga, Anfernee Jennings, Lamar Jackson

Guard. Mississippi State. Darryl Williams. 6. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. player. 893

Kyle Shanahan loves running the ball, specifically with their zone-heavy scheme. And while they do so effectively, the interior of their offensive line is okay at best. Weston Richburg played well in New York but the same can’t be said in San Fransisco. Mike Person and Laken Tomlinson are also average players and Tomlinson, in particular, has struggled in the 49ers’ scheme.

Darryl Williams is a bit of a developmental prospect. Williams is fairly mobile for a center and moves quicker than you would expect for an interior offensive lineman. While he’s mobile, though, he has a very weak anchor. Williams will often cede ground to most defensive tackles and will get pushed around quite easily.

Adding Williams to this 49ers roster isn’t meant to add a high-level guard; he is more of a project. Williams has all the things that Shanahan would like in a zone scheme guard or center but needs to develop his strength and anchor before he can become a quality player in the NFL.

Other Players Available: Dane Jackson, Josh Kelly, Raequan Williams
