New England Patriots: 5 Top targets in 2020 NFL free agency
3. Tyler Eifert
Probably the biggest hole that is currently present on the New England Patriots and was an area that stood out during the 2019 season comes at the tight end position. Ever since Rob Gronkowski somewhat unexpectedly retired a few years ago, New England has struggled in trying to replace the large tight end target to pair alongside Tom Brady and company on the Patriots offense.
As we have seen with Brady and the New England passing game in the past, whenever it consists of a top-notch tight end target to boost the team in the middle of the field and in the red zone, this Patriots offense takes things to the next level.
One player that New England could look to add this offseason while trying to address that issue at tight end is Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert.
With the Bengals looking like they are going into a full rebuild mode, they might ultimately look to part ways with the veteran Pro Bowl tight end in 2020 and could make Eifert available for other teams such as the Patriots.
In 2019, the 29-year-old tight end put together his best season since the 2015 campaign, appearing in all 16 games for Cincinnati. He finished the regular season with 43 catches for 436 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 10.1 yards per catch.
Eifert, who will turn 30 years old in September, could be a really nice addition to the Patriots offense in 2020 and could also convince Tom Brady to return back to New England for the upcoming year to make yet another run at a Super Bowl.
