2020 NFL Draft: 10 Prospects being valued way too high
By Samuel Teets
1. Jacob Eason, QB, Washington
Two NFL-ready quarterbacks emerged during the 2019 college football season. Burrow and Tagovailoa stand head and shoulders above the other quarterbacks in this draft. While I understand Herbert probably getting taken in the top ten and even the hype around Love, what business does Jacob Eason have potentially going in the first round?
On the high end, some analysts and sportswriters believe Eason will hear his names called on the draft’s opening night. This is the same quarterback who transferred out of Georgia when Jake Fromm stole his starting spot during the 2017 season.
Eason put together two complete seasons as a starter in college, including his freshman year at Georgia and this past season at Washington. While his completion percentage spiked from 55.1 to 64.2 percent, he only threw 39 touchdowns to 16 interceptions in college. At most, Eason looks like a third-round quarterback.
However, an NFL team will inevitably reach for Eason based on his “potential” and become disappointed when he doesn’t transform into the franchise’s savior. It’s somewhat cruel betting on a young man’s future like this, but would you want Eason starting for your favorite team next year? He should enter the NFL as a second-string quarterback and remain that way for the majority of his career.
