2020 NFL Mock Draft: What if there were no quarterbacks in the class?
Mike Zimmer and first-round cornerbacks — name a better duo. But with Xavier Rhodes seemingly on his way out of Minnesota, the Vikings need help in the secondary. Trevon Diggs is a guy many people are sleeping on but he has first-round traits and could be an athletic press corner for the Vikes.
(Pick via Texans) With a defense in need of any type of playmakers, the Dolphins target the versatile Zack Baun. The Wisconsin product has the ability to come off the edge, drop into coverage or crash down against the run. He can move all over the defense and be a key chess piece for Miami’s future.
Seattle’s defensive line is going to need some work this offseason as a laundry list of starters from 2019 are set to hit the open market. Neville Gallimore is an athletic freak and a potential game-breaker from the interior of the line, something the Seahawks could surely utilize.
The Ravens could be looking at an edge rusher, linebacker or even defensive tackle here. But they choose to aid Lamar Jackson and the passing offense with more high-quality weapons by taking Denzel Mims. The Baylor product has the size, length and athleticism to be a fantastic addition in Baltimore.
It appears as if Jack Conklin is going to be leaving the Titans in free agency, which leaves a massive hole at right tackle. While Lucas Niang dealt with injuries throughout his college career, he was effective and athletic when on the field and could be the answer in Tennessee if he’s healthy.
Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams would love some help as the Packers weaponry on offense is quite shallow. While linebacker and offensive tackle are needs, K.J. Hamler is the pick at No. 30. The Penn State speedster will add an element to Green Bay that they currently lack in the passing game.
Safety is one of the clear positions of need for the 49ers, especially if they lose Jimmie Ward in free agency. Grant Delpit might be undervalued at this point in the draft process. Though his tackling is a concern, his ball-hawking ability as a playmaker could make him a steal at No. 31 for San Francisco.
Yes, the Chiefs defense could use more substantial pieces. But as I’ve said before, why not make their elite offense even more lethal? D’Andre Swift would do that, giving Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City’s attack a versatile and dangerous every-down back that will succeed in this system right away.
Of course, there’s no chance that quarterbacks won’t be a part of the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft — in fact, there will surely be at least three off the board in the top 10. But hey, why not have a little fun with this NFL Mock Draft, right?
