1. Karl Joseph, S

For whatever reason, safety Karl Joseph has had a tumultuous young career with Oakland since they made him the No. 14 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. For the past few years, he’s consistently been thrown around in trade rumors and has never seemingly found his footing as a key piece in the silver and black’s defense on the back end.

Despite that, Joseph has still been an overall solid player for the Raiders throughout his career. Yes, he’s had some lapses at times, as most young players do as they make the jump from college to the professional ranks. But overall, he’s proven to be a strong tackler with some playmaking ability in coverage, even if he isn’t an elite player in either regard.

However, with the Raiders signing LaMarcus Joyner last offseason while also using one of three first-round picks on Johnathan Abram out of Mississippi State in 2019, it’s clear that they are set to move on from Joseph as they chose to not pick up his fifth-year option and are letting his rookie contract expire in the 2020 offseason.

To me, it’s still puzzling that the Raiders could never make it work with a player who has the clear talent Joseph does. Whatever the reason may be, though, it’s also obvious that he’s not going to be making the trip to Las Vegas with the organization. He’ll have a new home in the 2020 season and, frankly, should be better for it if the new team is happy to integrate him into the defense fully.
