In possibly Drew Brees’ final year, the New Orleans Saints need to give him another receiver to pair with superstar Michael Thomas in the passing game.

The New Orleans Saints have been remarkably close to appearing in the Super Bowl over the past few years. After barely missing out on a first-round bye and losing to the Minnesota Vikings in the playoffs this past season, it’s time for the Saints to push in all of their chips for one last title run.

Drew Brees is entering his 15th and likely last season with New Orleans. The future Hall of Famer has not shown much of a decline in performance in the twilight of his career, but he nonetheless considered retirement at the end of the 2019 season before ultimately agreeing to play another year.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to assume that 2020 could be Brees’ last season in the league. While the Saints field one of the more complete rosters in the NFL, they need to give Brees more help at the wide receiver position in what could be his last hurrah.

The Saints already roster arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL in Michael Thomas. Thomas is coming off a season where he caught 149 balls for 1,725 yards and nine touchdowns, leading the league in catches and receiving yards. He was virtually unguardable for most of the 2019 season and headlined a Saints offense that became the third-highest scoring unit in the league.

However, he didn’t have much help from his teammates. No other player on the Saints surpassed 750 receiving yards; the wide receiver who totaled the second-most receiving yards on the team was Ted Ginn Jr, who caught 30 balls for 421 yards and two touchdowns in 2019. Thomas caught more balls and accumulated more receiving yards than Ginn, Alvin Kamara, and Jared Cook combined.

If the Saints want to go from great to unstoppable, they need to find a compliment to Thomas. Here are three big-name options at the receiver the Saints should explore.
