2020 NFL Draft: 5 Best landing spots for Justin Herbert
By Lucas Schuh
3. Indianapolis Colts
In August of 2019 with the preseason underway, the Indianapolis Colts were readying for a season with a ton of hope as Andrew Luck was set to take the field with the best roster he’d ever played with. However, Luck’s sudden retirement through everything off-kilter. They had to figure out what to do in the immediate future at quarterback.
The answer ended up being backup Jacoby Brissett, who stepped in as the starter. While the quarterback play could have been worse for the Colts, Brissett showed that he probably isn’t the future at the position in Indianapolis. He finished the season with less than 3,000 yards, a completion percentage barely above 60 and fewer than 20 touchdowns.
With a great offensive line, some nice offensive pieces and a terrific offensive coach in Frank Reich, Brissett proved he can’t totally get the job done. Herbert, however, has that type of potential if he were to join the Colts. Putting the Oregon product behind an elite offensive line, something he benefitted from at Oregon, would help him greatly in his development and finding early and sustained success.
Having that line protecting him while also having solid weapons such as T.Y. Hilton, Marlon Mack and any potential free-agent or draft additions would be huge for Herbert taking steps forward. Furthermore, Reich is the perfect coach to develop the tools Herbert is blessed with and ultimately turn him into a franchise quarterback in Indianapolis.
