Green Bay Packers pre-free agency 7-round 2020 mock draft
Davante Adams has proven that he’s a clear-cut star wide receiver in the NFL time and again. That was on display again in the 2019 season as he led all Green Bay pass-catchers by a wide margin despite missing four games due to a toe injury. What that also speaks to, however, is the Packers’ need to deepen and strengthen the wide receiver corps.
Selecting K.J. Hamler out of Penn State is a selection with that in the forefront of the team’s mind. While his diminutive stature at 5-9, 176 pounds might limit the areas where Hamler can line up, his refinement as a route-runner and physical tools can make him an elite weapon alongside Adams.
Hamler will provide the Packers with a slot receiver that can win at all levels of the field, getting open with route-running and quickness in the short and intermediate levels and burning defenses with speed over the top. The result will be Rodgers and the offense taking a massive step forward.
The future of Bryan Bulaga is in question as the veteran and oft-injured right tackle, despite his performance when on the field, could leave in NFL free agency. So they wait until the third round to address it but try to find his long-term replacement in Ben Bartch.
Here’s what Kyle Crabbs of The Draft Network had to say about the St. John’s product:
"Bartch has wonderful fundamentals for a small school prospect and, with a bit more added functional strength to his frame, should be a well rounded pass protector. Bartch’s résumé is boosted by a strong showing at the 2020 Senior Bowl — he proved his mettle against a slew of pass rushers in Mobile."
Bartch should be able to succeed right away in the NFL with his technique and baseline size but has room to get even better. Landing him in Round 3 would be a gift from the gods for the Packers.
