Detroit Lions: Everson Griffen

Speaking of the Detroit Lions, could Matt Patricia and company find a way to convince Everson Griffen to remain in the NFC North, only on a different team outside the Minnesota Vikings?

Long shot or not, one of the best parts about free agency in the NFL is anything seems possible, even if that includes a dominant defender like Griffen joining a rival in the Lions.

Two years ago, Patricia was hired by Detroit as their head coach with the intention of helping the team become a legitimate contender in the NFC once again, which unfortunately has been far from the case.

As much as Patricia doesn’t want to hear it, if the Lions get off to a poor start in 2020, this could result in the head coach being on the hot seat right away.

Part of the reason behind Detroit previously feeling confident in Patricia was due to his defensive success as a member of Bill Belichick’s coaching staff with the New England Patriots, and even though Griffen won’t solve all of the team’s issues, it would be another step in the right direction.

Watching Griffen earn Pro Bowl honors for the fourth time in five years shows the veteran defender is still capable of playing at a high level, and if the Lions would be willing to pay up, maybe this long-shot scenario could happen.
