The Dallas Cowboys offseason is off to a slow start — again — but these three free agents could fix the holes that have been created recently

Ever since Stephen Jones took more control of the Dallas Cowboys roster, the team has become one of the more frustratingly frugal franchises in the entire NFL. They’ve also become one of the slowest moving every year in the free agency period.

As frustrating as this is for fans, it has oftentimes paid off. Take 2019 for instance. While many tier-one players went flying off the board, the Cowboys front office sat back and waited. They also allowed some of their own players to leave with Cole Beasley, the former slot receiver being the biggest loss.

Beasley landed a four-year deal worth $29 million with the Buffalo Bills. Dallas decided that was too much to pay and they wanted more flexibility, so they waited. And it worked as they landed Randall Cobb on a one-year $5 million deal which saved them money and gave them an out after one year. Cobb had a good enough campaign that he ended up signing a three-year $27 million deal this offseason with Houston, but it proved they made the right call for last year.

But that doesn’t help for this season as Dallas has seen even more starters leave. In addition to Cobb, they also allowed Byron Jones to sign with the Miami Dolphins and Robert Quinn — who they added in 2019 for a sixth-round pick — landed with the Chicago Bears.

They will all be missed but the contracts they signed were massive. Jones ended up with a contract covering five years that will pay him $82 million with $54.5 million guaranteed. Quinn got five years as well and $70 million with $30 million guaranteed.

Dallas was never coming close to those deals but that doesn’t mean they can’t still find success this year in free agency. In fact, they can still replace Jones and Quinn while also adding another player at a position of need. Signing Gerald McCoy is a nice start but, we look at three other free-agent signings that can save the Cowboys offseason.
