1. Everson Griffen, Defensive End

The final player we look at is Everson Griffen, a 10-year veteran who was recently released by the Minnesota Vikings, another team that was dangerously close to the salary cap ceiling. Griffen, who was originally a fourth-round pick out of USC in 2010, has made the Pro Bowl four times in his career, including 2019 when he had 41 tackles and eight sacks for Minnesota.

Like the others on this list, he’s not a player who will sign a massive long-term contract but there’s no doubt that the team would be able to get a good season out of him in 2020 — which would take a lot of pressure off them in the upcoming draft.

Adding Griffen would feel an awful lot like the deal they made last year to add Robert Quinn. Before coming to Dallas, Quinn had 8.5 sacks in 2017 and 6.5 in 2018 which had some believing his best days were behind him. He proved that theory to be false as he led the team with 11.5 sacks, taking full advantage of the attention DeMarcus Lawrence commanded on the left side.

For Griffen, he could have the same late-career resurgence. He could also help bridge the gap for someone such as Randy Gregory who apparently could return to the NFL now with their softened stance on marijuana thanks to the new NFL CBA.

dark. Next. NFL Free Agency: Best and worst deals so far

Of course, not one of these deals guarantees success beyond 2020 but with the Cowboys operating in thins one-year at a time mind-frame, they could be the exact players needed to salvage this offseason.
