Dallas Cowboys: 7-Round 2020 mock draft replinishes free agency losses
By Randy Gurzi
Adding Gerald McCoy is a big win for the Cowboys but they can use more help on their defensive line, primarily at the one-technique. This position was criminally undervalued by former defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli and hopefully with him gone — and out of the war room finally — the Cowboys get themselves a true nose tackle in Utah’s Leki Fotu.
When looking at Fotu, the first thing that stands out is his massive size. Fotu measured in at 6-foot-5 and 330-pounds at the Scouting Combine and he plays with every bit of power you would expect for a man that big.
While with the Utes, he was constantly disrupting the running game and will do the same in the NFL. Dallas sorely needs such a player and while he won’t be a three-down lineman, he’s well worth the investment at this point in the draft.
There was a point where Trey Adams was one of the best prospects at his position. Back in 2017, he looked to be the premier left tackle in the nation but then a torn ACL ended his season prematurely. He then suffered a back injury and suddenly became a forgotten player.
For Dallas, they decide to take a gamble here on a player with a lot of upside — and it fills a need after they allowed Cameron Fleming to leave when they declined his option.
Adams won’t be expected to start regularly in Dallas but they could end up using him as a swing tackle, assuming he shows them he can handle the job — and can stay healthy.
