Pick Analysis. D.J. Wonnum. DE. player. 850. Scouting Report. Round 5. Pick 179

The Cowboys have a need at defensive end but they do have options. DeMarcus Lawrence has one position locked down and Tyrone Crawford could slide back to right end and stay there permanently now that they have Gerald McCoy. There’s also an outside chance Randy Gregory could return and they liked what Dorance Armstrong showed the past two seasons.

Still, they need depth and that’s where D.J. Wonnum comes in. Listed at 6-foot-5 and 258-pounds, Wonnum played as a pass-rushing linebacker and defensive end for the Gamecocks. He was also a team captain, showing strong leadership for the SEC program.

He won’t be guaranteed a spot but players at this point are brought in merely for competition and that’s what he can bring.

Scouting Report. Round 7. Pick 231. 888. Pick Analysis. Joe Reed. WR. player

With their final pick in this mock draft, the Dallas Cowboys add another wide receiver in Joe Reed — who is also the second player from Virginia to land with them here. Reed was a solid receiver for the Cavalier but his ticket to making an NFL team will be on special teams.

Reed was the primary kick returner for Virginia and he had a great career in this regard. In four seasons, he had 3,042 yards and five touchdowns while averaging 28.7 yards per run back. In his final season, he was up to 33.2 yards per kickoff return.

Dallas can use a spark in this area and Reed offers that. And he can play wideout in a pinch, which is an added bonus.
