NFL Free Agency 2020: 10 Best players still available and their best landing spots
2. Jameis Winston, QB
Tom Brady, Philip Rivers, Teddy Bridgewater, Dak Prescott, Drew Brees and even Marcus Mariota are off the free-agent quarterback market. And while there are still trade options, the biggest remaining free agent remaining on the docket is Jameis Winston. Fresh off the first 30-touchdown, 30-interception season in NFL history, Winston is a mixed bag at this point.
There has never been any question about the raw talent that Winston his, which is why the Buccaneers made him the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. While that may be true, his decision-making and propensity for turnovers are simply unforgivable as his woes have not gotten any better, even in a system under Bruce Arians in 2019 that encourages taking chances.
Despite the quarterback movement, Winston should still find a home somewhere in the league. What is yet to be determined is if he’ll be a starter getting a second chance or a backup having to wait for another opportunity to prove himself in the league.
Best Possible Landing Spots: Patriots, Chargers
1. Jadeveon Clowney, EDGE
Not that there was ever any question but Jadeveon Clowney is the top player remaining on the 2020 NFL free agency market. The former No. 1 overall pick has struggled with injuries while with the Texans and was not all that productive in his lone season with the Seahawks. But that won’t stop him from getting a payday.
The blend of physical tools that Clowney possesses are rare and, if he can stay healthy, there’s no reason to believe that his presence can’t help revolutionize a defense, especially one that’s in need of a consistent pass rush.
As free-agent visits are shut down right now due to the coronavirus outbreak, that might be slowing down Clowney’s market right now as teams want to get their medical evaluations done comprehensively. Even still, he’ll sign somewhere sooner rather than later and should be made one of the highest-paid edge defenders in the league as a result.
Best Possible Landing Spots: Titans, Seahawks, Colts
