Round 1, Pick 19: Jeff Gladney, CB, TCU

The Raiders famously traded away edge rusher — and former defensive player of the year — Khalil Mack in 2018. They were hesitant to pay him the massive contract he earned and decided to instead cash in on draft picks in exchange for his services.

Head coach Jon Gruden orchestrated the deal that sent him to the Chicago Bears, and again he was poked fun at for the trade. Sure, he landed a couple of first-round picks, but Gruden also sent a second-round selection in 2020 to the Bears in the deal.

That means they won’t have a pick in the second this season, but they do have two top-20 spots. After adding Henry Ruggs at No. 12, they now look for a cornerback to start opposite Trayvon Mullen in Jeff Gladney out of TCU.

Gladney was a fifth-year senior for the Horned Frogs and is known as an alpha in the secondary. He’s also incredibly tough, proven by the fact that he played most of 2019 on a torn meniscus and still put up a 4.47-second 40 with a bum knee in the Scouting Combine. He had surgery right afterward to fix it, but he still proved he can not only play through pain, but can play at a high level.
