Las Vegas Raiders add big playmaker in 7-round 2020 mock draft
By Randy Gurzi
Round 3, Pick 80: Jake Fromm, QB, Georgia
Ever since Jon Gruden came back to the Raiders for his second stint as head coach of the franchise, there have been rumors that he isn’t thrilled with Derek Carr as the quarterback. Each offseason trade rumors run rampant and they’re linked to several new quarterbacks.
This year, they finally have some competition as the Raiders landed Marcus Mariota in free agency. Mariota, who was the starter with the Tennessee Titans for several years, lost his job to Ryan Tannehill and is looking for a second chance. He might find that in Vegas but he has to prove he can stay healthy.
And if we are being honest, the Raiders seem unlikely to keep both Mariota and Carr for long. This could be similar to what happened in Tennessee last year when Tannehill took over late and the job was his once he took off. Should Mariota do the same, Carr could be on the move finally in 2021.
With that being said, the Raiders look for another player capable of developing into a starter in Jake Fromm. Whether it’s to push Carr or be ready when Mariota gets hurt (he has never played a full 16 games), Fromm can be a valuable player. While at Georgia, he proved he can be trusted to make all the right plays. He won’t wow with his arm but this is a smart game manager that can start in a pinch.
