Las Vegas Raiders add big playmaker in 7-round 2020 mock draft
By Randy Gurzi
Round 4, Pick 121: Kenny Willekes, EDGE, Michigan State
Another position that can use some depth for Las Vegas is at defensive end. They have some good players in Clelin Ferrell and Maxx Crosby but beyond that, they had to rely heavily on Benson Mayowa in 2019. He surprised as a pass rusher but they can use more, which is why they use their fourth-round pick on Kenny Willekes out of Michigan State.
The Spartans are known for their ability in defense and Willekes developed into a really good pass rusher for them. After a slow start, he recorded 18 sacks in his final two seasons to go along with three-straight campaigns with more than 70 tackles. He doesn’t excel in any area but does just enough to be a good rotational edge defender.
Round 5, Pick 159: Shaquille Quarterman, LB, Miami
The Raiders final pick — barring any trades to add more — comes in the fifth round. Here, they go with a throwback player, which is exactly what Jon Gruden likes. Shaquille Quarterman was a four-year starter for the Miami Hurricanes and did nothing but rack up tackles.
He never had less than 82 in a single season and recorded 356 in his four years. He doesn’t have great mobility which is why he slides in this mock but his punishing hits will be more than enough to get excited about.
Could be a special teams ace for a couple of seasons but there’s a chance this day three pick could turn into a starter down the road.
