Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 10 Targets in 2020 NFL Draft to jumpstart Tom Brady era
6. Cameron Dantzler, CB, Mississippi State
In the 2019 season, Todd Bowles coached up a pair of corners who weren’t household names, Jamel Dean and Carlton Davis. The duo played well down the stretch, especially Davis, who was an absolute stud.
However, in a division loaded with elite wide receiver talents such as Michael Thomas with the Saints or Julio Jones with the Falcons, the Bucs cannot have too many corners. On their 2020 slate, they are set to play the Packers, Chiefs and Vikings as well, so getting more help at the corner position is necessary.
The Bucs have the benefit of a 2020 NFL Draft class that’s deep at the corner position. Bowles runs multiple coverages but none more than man, however, since he changes it up, he needs a player who provides him that flexibility, Cameron Dantzler can be that guy.
The Mississippi standout is a versatile corner who excels in man coverage thanks to his fluidity and mirroring skills. At the line of scrimmage, he plays press coverage well, opens his hips and maximizes the physicality window. He’s 6-2 but moves well as an off-man corner and, thanks to his football IQ, he understands route concepts, making him an effective zone corner.
Playing on a team like the Bucs could give him a chance to develop slowly seeing usage in certain situations.
