Speaking of Jerry Jeudy, he’s the next player off the board as the San Francisco 49ers use the No. 13 overall pick to add him to their roster. This pick was added recently as the 49ers decided to send DeForest Buckner to the Indianapolis Colts as he was ready to cash in on a second contract.
Buckner is one of the better defensive linemen in the NFL but the Niners felt as though they could part with him and still be fine. They did retain Arik Armstead and have Dee Ford as well as Nick Bosa, so it’s hard to argue they won’t be just fine. Making this move look even better is the addition of Jeudy, who plays a position of great need for them.
San Francisco just lost Emmanuel Sanders in free agency, a player they added in-season in a trade with the Denver Broncos. The veteran was traded for as they were looking for someone to lead their youthful receiving corps which is led by Deebo Samuel, the South Carolina product who flashed immense potential as a rookie.
As good as Samuel is, having another wideout such as Jeudy will take a lot of pressure off him — just like when Sanders was there. As for Jeudy himself, this is one of the cleanest route runners in the class, with a similar style to Calvin Ridley, Amari Cooper, and other Alabama lead wideouts. It won’t take long for him to earn the trust of Jimmy Garappolo and the passing game should take a huge step forward for them.
