Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Alabama. 2. player. QB. Tua Tagovailoa. 59

Trade alert: Miami trades the No. 5 and No. 26 picks in Round 1 as well as No. 70 in Round 3 for the No. 2 overall pick from the Washington Redskins

The first trade of the draft was accepted as the Miami Dolphins moved up to the No. 2 spot. In exchange for this pick, they gave the Washington Redskins the fifth pick, the 26th pick, and the 70th overall pick. The reason for doing so, was so no one else could leapfrog them at No. 5 and land their quarterback — Tua Tagovailoa.

Miami was accused of “Tanking for Tua” last year and it was easy to see why that was the belief. They traded, or released, just about every good player and fielded a less-than-stellar roster. Still, the players weren’t in on the tanking and thus the fact that they not only didn’t get the first pick but slid to No. 5.

As for their love for Tua, they haven’t made it a huge secret. They even tried to get him in for a visit before the COVID-19 pandemic halted travel and made the team unable to sit down with the Alabama product.

Even without that meeting, this is their guy and while they gave up a lot to get him, they have to feel good about finally having a starting-caliber quarterback.
