Las Vegas Raiders: Free agency grades for every signing thus far
Adding Clelin Ferrell and Maxx Crosby in the 2019 NFL Draft helped the Raiders become less of a dumpster fire in the pass-rushing department but, alas, the group still needs more help. And Carl Nassib, in a vacuum, is the right type of addition to be a rotational player coming off of the edge.
Nassib has 12 sacks over the past two seasons and has consistently been a workhorse, high-energy player off the edge. Furthermore, his time on Hard Knocks showed he’s the type of hard-worker the Raiders like. The issue, however, is that Las Vegas is paying $17 million guaranteed to a rotational end, which leaves a lot to be desired.
Offensive line depth was clearly something that the Raiders needed and wanted to address this offseason. But I’m not exactly sure that Eric Kush was the way to go about it after he was legitimately one of the worst linemen in the league last year with the Browns.
Though the terms are undisclosed, his performance from 2019 makes you believe that it’s a cheap deal, which makes it easier to swallow. But even then, it may have just been a signing better off not being made by Las Vegas.
Jeff Heath has plenty of starting experience over the past few years with the Cowboys but there’s also a reason why Dallas has been considered in need of a safety for the entire time Heath has been starting as well. He’s a good athlete but has limitations overall.
Having said that, the deal is modest and he is very much a serviceable depth player on defense. Additionally, he can be a real asset for the Raiders special teams. So on the whole, it’s a positive signing, even if not overwhelmingly so.
