2 . player. 879. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Clemson. John Simpson. Offensive Guard

Okay, I admit I have a draft-crush on John Simpson. I’ve had him as the Chicago Bears’ pick to replace the retired Kyle Long since the mock season started and it continues now. Simpson is NFL-ready now and has the mentality to succeed in the league.

At 6-4, 321 pounds Simpson is a huge plug on the line. When he makes first contact, you can almost hear the thud from your television. He has the strength to blow holes open for running back David Montgomery.

That strength is the first thing people notice about Simpson, but he also does a great job at pulling, getting into the second level, and screen blocking. That versatility guarantees that he’ll be a starter from game one.

Not only is Simpson strong in his upper body but also his lower body. He has a strong anchor and opposing rushers have trouble bull rushing him.

In addition to being great on the field, Simpson is great off of it. He has a smile that can brighten any room and an outgoing personality that could win over the toughest of people. That personality can help him become a leader on the line. He could be the glue on that line that Long was when he was playing. The line looked lost in 2019 without a leader and could return to their 2018 success with Simpson leading them.
