While analysts agree on several consensus first-round picks in the 2020 NFL Draft, these Day 2 selections could steal the show.

The 2020 NFL Draft opens on April 23. While the league canceled all fan events in Las Vegas, the draft will still be a thrilling experience for the young men who worked for two decades to achieve their dreams. However, not all future stars hear their names called on opening night.

While Day 1 of the NFL Draft features the first round, Day 2 includes Rounds 2-3. The media and fans pay the most attention to the draft’s headliners but teams can still find plenty of diamonds in the rough after the first round.

The following 10 second and third-round players could turn into game-changers for their future teams.

10. Van Jefferson, WR, Florida

Van Jefferson began making a name for himself when he transferred to Florida for the 2018 season. Between his final two years of college, Jefferson racked up modest totals: 84 receptions, 1,160 receiving yards, and 16 receiving touchdowns. However, his route running and versatility have scouts hopeful that he can become a dependable weapon in an NFL offense.

While his route running is among the best of any receiver in the 2020 NFL Draft class, Jefferson can struggle when it comes to speed and size. For those reasons, along with the class’s incredible depth at receiver, teams believe Jefferson could fall to the fourth or fifth round.

At the next level, Jefferson could serve as a more athletic, versatile version of Hunter Renfrow. While that doesn’t put him in the second round range, the right team could take a shot on him late in the third round. While there’s risk in taking Jefferson that high, he’s got great potential as a third receiving option in the NFL.

9. Justin Madubuike, DT, Texas A&M

Justin Madubuike put together two solid seasons at Texas A&M, producing similar numbers in 2018 and 2019. Madubuike combines explosiveness and expert use of leverage to overwhelm offensive lines and penetrate the backfield. His movements are fluid, and he flashed graceful athleticism and violent finishing power in college.

However, scouts worry about Madubuike’s lack of natural strength. When his technique waivers, he’s easily overrun by offensive linemen. Against NFL caliber interior linemen, Madubuike could struggle to perform consistently. For this reason, he’s a late-second to mid-third-round prospect.
