Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. St John's. 3. player. 58. Offensive Tackle. Ben Bartch

Trent Williams, even in his 30s, was supposed to be the stalwart left tackle for many years to come in Washington. With him wanting out, however, they had to turn to veteran Donald Penn in 2019. But now the team needs to have the long game in mind as they come into the 2020 NFL Draft and that means finding a possible long-term option at tackle to protect Haskins.

Ben Bartch is not a player who many casual fans are familiar with, no doubt thanks to the fact that he played at St. John’s, a Division III school in Minnesota. But once the NFL Combine arrived, Bartch became a household name — though not in a conventional way. Instead, he made headlines for his smoothie that helped him bulk up, which consists of eggs, Gatorade, cottage cheese, banana, grits and peanut butter.

Dietary choices aside, however, Bartch is also a good offensive tackle ready to make a gigantic leap in competition. At the Senior Bowl, the St. John’s product did the most for his draft stock as he looked like one of the best players at the position against Division I competition. He clearly has the make-up of a player that can succeed at the NFL level.

Bartch has some of the best hands in the offensive tackle class in the 2020 NFL Draft. He can punch and set often but, even if they get batted away, they’re quick enough for him to reset them. More impressively, he also plays with a mean streak and a mentality that teams want at the position. He loves finishing guys off, driving them into the dirt, while also being a fighter that won’t ever concede a lost rep.

Even if the Redskins bring Penn back into the fold, Bartch would be a welcomed addition. The D-III product could learn behind Penn in that case but, to be sure, he could play right away if Penn doesn’t return to Washington.

Other Players Available: Lucas Niang, Akeem Davis-Gaither, Willie Gay Jr.
