The Dallas Cowboys trade back from No. 17 for an additional pick but are still able to shore up their secondary in this 7-round 2020 NFL Mock Draft

One thing the Dallas Cowboys front office does a good job at is ensuring they can field a complete team before he draft takes place. They have done that once again this year by making a few sound decisions — which helped them replace some key losses.

This isn’t to say they improved or got equal value for their losses, but they did add players to fill the roles and keep them competitive. For example, they lost Byron Jones but replaced him with Maurice Canady and re-signed Anthony Brown. Clearly, they lose talent but with Canady, Brown, Chidobe Awuzie and Jourdan Lewis on the team, they can go into games with competent players.

On the defensive line, it can be argued they improved. Dallas lost Maliek Collins and Robert Quinn but added Gerald McCoy, Dontari Poe, and will get Tyrone Crawford back after he missed the majority of the 2019 season. The edge is not as good but they got better inside and can go into games knowing they can hold their own.

The Cowboys also finally added help at safety. This year, they added former Green Bay Packers first-round pick Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, who reunites with Mike McCarthy after short stints with the Washington Redskins and Chicago Bears.

Dallas also has a plan despite a surprising retirement recently. Center Travis Frederick recently announced his decision to hang up his cleats but Dallas has two options entering the season. One is to turn to Joe Looney who played all of 2018 at center while Frederick battled with Guillain-Barré syndrome. Another is to use 2019 third-round pick Connor McGovern, who spent some time at center at Penn State.

Again, Dallas could upgrade several of these positions but can go into the year with a decent roster. That opens things up for them in the 2020 NFL Draft and allowed them to land some impact players, which is what they do in this 7-round mock — which will include trade projections.
