Dallas Cowboys trade back, shore up secondary in 7-round 2020 mock draft
By Randy Gurzi
With their second pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Cowboys again add a player to the secondary as they take Ohio State cornerback Damon Arnette. Coming into the Scouting Combine, Arnette was gaining momentum as a top cornerback prospect but then he lost some of that with less than ideal testing — which included a 4.57 in the 40-yard dash.
Arnette has adequate size at 6-foot-0 and 195-pounds and is a very good fit as an outside corner. He can frustrate receivers with his ability to shadow them and his press coverage is impressive. He’s also known to have a mean streak in his play, which is something this Dallas secondary has lacked for quite some time.
With Dallas, he will most likely fight with Jourdan Lewis and Maurice Canady for snaps as the primary corner opposite Chidobe Awuzie. He could end up winning that battle but even if he doesn’t do so as a rookie, he should be able to develop into a starter in no time.
Fans aren’t going to forget about Byron Jones anytime soon but after adding their free agents as well as Grant Delpit and now Damon Arnette in this mock, it’s hard to argue that they didn’t improve overall in an area that has, at times, been a weakness for them.
