OT. player. 823. Pick Analysis. Round 5. Pick 164. Scott Frantz. Scouting Report

Since 2016, there has been a constant trend for Tyron Smith. The Cowboys seven-time Pro Bowl selection at left tackle has missed three games in every one of those campaigns. And whenever Smith is out, the offense looks different. Never was this more evident than in 2017 when they fell apart without No. 77.

That was the season when Chaz Green took over for Smith and was beaten like a drum by defensive end Adrian Clayborn of the Atlanta Falcons. Clayborn set a team-record with six sacks on the game, five of which came against Green and one was on Byron Bell who replaced Green later in the game.

Following that season, Dallas made swing tackle a priority. They went out and signed Cameron Fleming from the New England Patriots in 2018 and he proved to be a good addition. Fleming started the six games Smith missed over the past two seasons and while he wasn’t the same level player, he kept the offense going. However, Fleming was let go as the team declined the option in his contract that would have paid him $4.5 million.

Fleming signed with the Giants, where he will join Jason Garrett, their new offensive coordinator. As for Dallas, they haven’t added a replacement yet which is why they use their first of two picks in the fifth round of this mock on Scott Frantz from Kansas State.

Frantz has NFL size at 6-foot-5 and 305-pounds. He’s also an experienced starter with three seasons as a starter. He has no problem playing in the running game and could potentially play well for the Cowboys in spurts, just as Fleming did.
