Green Bay Packers: 5 Top targets with No. 30 pick in 2020 NFL Draft
By Joe Kipp
The Green Bay Packers hold the No. 30 overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft. Here are five players who should be Green Bay’s top priority.
The 2019 season was a great success for the Green Bay Packers. The team finished 13-3 under first-year coach Matt LaFleur, falling just one game short of Super Bowl LIV. Because of that, the Packers will select 30th overall in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Green Bay is needing help in a few key areas, especially with the departure of some high-priced free agents. The team elected not to re-sign inside linebacker Blake Martinez and right tackle Bryan Bulaga, both of whom played large roles in 2019.
To replace Martinez and Bulaga, the Packers signed linebacker Christian Kirskey and right tackle Ricky Wagner each to two-year contracts. Additionally, the team reportedly agreed to terms with receiver Devin Funchess, though no official announcement has been made.
Even with the addition of Kirksey, the Packers still lack depth at linebacker. Based on initial scouting reports, it appears the position is extremely top heavy in this year’s draft, which means Green Bay may have to use the No. 30 pick to acquire a game-changing talent at the position.
Another position the Packers may target with their first pick is wide receiver. Outside of Davante Adams, the team lacks a legitimate playmaker at the position. While Allen Lazard showed signs of promise in stretches this past season, the Packers still need a potential successor to Adams, even with the signing of Funchess.
Luckily for Green Bay, the receiver position is the deepest it’s been in several years. In fact, 55 receivers were invited to the NFL’s 2020 Scouting Combine. There could be as many as eight receivers that hear their name called in the first round this year.
To be clear, the five players on this list are realistic targets that could be available when the Packers select in the first round. Based on those notions, here are five top targets the Packers should be eyeing at pick No. 30 in the 2020 NFL Draft.
