Green Bay Packers: 5 Top targets with No. 30 pick in 2020 NFL Draft
By Joe Kipp
1. Denzel Mims, WR, Baylor
Baylor receiver Denzel Mims was rarely talked about as a potential first-rounder before the NFL Combine, but after posting elite marks in nearly every drill, Mims has started skyrocketing up draft boards.
Mims’ performance in the 40-yard dash (4.38 seconds), vertical jump (38.5 inches), broad jump (10-11) and 3-cone drill (6.66 seconds) were all among the best at his position. Coupled with his production at Baylor, Mims should be a strong candidate for the Packers at pick No. 30 in the 2020 NFL Draft.
In his senior season in 2019, Mims posted 66 catches for 1,020 yards and 12 touchdowns. He was one of college football’s best red zone threats. Mims, measuring in at 6-3, 207 pounds, has rare athletic traits for his size. The Packers have plenty of big receivers on their roster currently, but none have the athleticism of Mims.
Some have compared Mims to former Packers receiver Jordy Nelson. Both are big targets who thrive off timing routes and catching back-shoulder throws. If Mims is the pick at No. 30, Packers fans should be ecstatic. He appears to be a player who could step right in and make an immediate impact in Green Bay’s offense.
