Trade the pick

Realistically, this could go either way.

Depending on who the Vikings covet and how far they fall, Spielman could decide to move up the draft in order to select someone who can make an impact on Day 1. Whether that’s a wide receiver, cornerback or something else, the potential is there. Packaging the No. 22 and No. 25 picks could certainly shimmy Minnesota up the first round.

At the same time, they could also opt to trade down. They’ve already got a first-round pick, and Slick Rick has a knack for trading back. Especially with a number of holes in need of filling, he could look to acquire more Day 1 selections. It seems like the less likely option, but never count anything out when it comes to the Vikings’ draft-day approach.

Right now, you should simply be hoping Minnesota makes the right decision and finds a talent capable of moving the needle right away. That isn’t always easy (especially considering the recent pre-draft difficulties due to the ongoing pandemic), but Vikings fans will certainly have their fingers crossed in hopes of avoiding a letdown.

Regardless of what happens, having two first-round picks is a great situation to be in. It should help the Vikings improve significantly on a roster that is not Super Bowl worthy.
