2. Indianapolis Colts

The Colts signed Philip Rivers to a one-year, $25 million deal this offseason. Indianapolis added enough pieces in free agency that they can compete in the AFC South this coming fall, but the team needs a long-term solution. Even if he plays well, the Colts will not bring Rivers back in 2021, and retirement seems imminent for the long-time Charger.

Jacoby Brissett showed his limitations last season. After a good first half of the season, Brissett threw four touchdowns and three interceptions in Indianapolis’s final seven games. While he could find a starting job with another organization in the future, Brissett is not going to lead a team to the Super Bowl.

Indianapolis holds the 34th, 44th and 75th picks in the draft. Depending on the direction Eason’s stock begins trending, the Colts could snag him in the early second or early third round. That limits the potential risk if Eason turns into a flop and gives the Colts a year to let the Washington product learn from Rivers.

1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Buccaneers signed Tom Brady to a two-year, $50 million deal this offseason. The pairing of Brady and head coach Bruce Arians should produce a playoff team in 2020. Between the dominance of Tampa Bay’s defensive front and their embarrassment of riches on offense, the team should challenge New Orleans for the NFC South division title.

Tampa Bay shouldn’t get complacent at quarterback and wait until Brady’s final season before looking for a long-term heir. With Brady turning 43 this coming season, there’s almost no chance he sticks around after this two-year deal ends. Finding a solution at quarterback now would save the Buccaneers a lot of stress later.

Tampa Bay holds the 45th, 76th and 117th overall picks. Again, based on how Eason’s stock changes between now and the draft, Tampa Bay could add him at any of those spots. Picking Eason that low also lessens the blow if he doesn’t work out, while still leaving the Buccaneers time to chase alternative heirs in 2021.
