West. LOS ANGELES RAMS. B-. . NFC

Nothing that the Los Angeles Rams did this offseason has me over the moon but, at the end of the day, this is a team that at least has the potential to improve off of a disappointing 2019 season.

Cutting Todd Gurley was a bit shocking but, with his injury issues and the deal they signed them to, getting out of it as soon as possible was the right course of action. Meanwhile, shoring up the edge with a prove-it deal handed to Leonard Floyd was a savvy move for the Rams, as was re-signing Andrew Whitworth and beefing up the defensive line by signing A’Shawn Robinson.

The Rams were likely going to get a “C” or “C+” but being able to re-sign Michael Brockers after the Ravens pulled their contract offer following issues with his physical bumps them up just slightly with their grade.

B+. . AFC. East. MIAMI DOLPHINS

Armed with the most cap space in the NFL this offseason, it figured that a talent-deficient Miami Dolphins team was going to be aggressive and that was indeed the case. They were aggressive in making Byron Jones the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL (briefly) while also landing guys like Kyle Van Noy, Shaq Lawson, Ereck Flowers and Jordan Howard, among others, who will make their team better.

Frankly, everything the Dolphins do is all for naught until they get their quarterback. But with the No. 5 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, they’re almost surely in line to do that. And their moves in free agency, while expensive, are made to put an infrastructure around that quarterback under Brian Flores, who was highly impressive in year one. While their free agency spending is a divisive topic, my estimation is that this is a win for Miami.
