South. NEW ORLEANS SAINTS. A-. . NFC

There’s a phenomenon that happens every offseason where it doesn’t seem as if the Saints have done all that much but, when the dust settles a bit, New Orleans is one of the winners of the offseason. That’s again the case as we begin the 2020 season.

Signing Drew Brees was obvious for the Saints but they did so on a budget price given other contracts handed out. Moreover, they retained Andrus Peat and David Onyemata, both of whom solidify both sides of the ball in the trenches. But they also landed newcomers on each side of the ball who will upgrade those units.

Malcolm Jenkins coming back to the Saints after his time in Philadelphia is huge for the secondary to replace the loss of Vonn Bell and Emmanuel Sanders is a perfect complement to Michael Thomas in this offense. A team that went 13-3 last year now looks even more dangerous than they did a season ago.

C. . NFC. East. NEW YORK GIANTS

If nothing else, Giants general manager Dave Gettleman isn’t going to stand pat as new head coach Joe Judge takes over. He’s been aggressive in adding a ton of new faces, including inking cornerback James Bradberry and linebacker Blake Martinez to relatively expensive three-year deals while also signing several solid veterans that can have a role on both sides of the ball and franchise tagging Leonard Williams.

But despite the high level of activity for New York, how much are these moves really going to make the Giants better? Bradberry is a good-not-great corner while Martinez is a problematic player being overpaid now. And the rest of the roster still has a ton of issues, not the least of which are a lack of edge rush, limited weapons and the offensive line. It’s a fine set of moves but nothing that Giants fans should be celebrating too heavily.
