NFL Free Agency 2020: Grades for every team after first wave
If you weren’t looking at the name of the team associated with the Jets’ moves this offseason, you would think you were looking at a contender adding solid veterans to take the roster up a notch with depth.
That, however, is not the situation in which Gang Green finds themselves. The Jets did make some moves to try and upgrade the offensive line, the most impactful being landing center Connor McGovern. They also signed Breshad Perriman after they were unable to retain Robby Anderson. But outside of that, the moves that New York has made aren’t going to move the needle all that much, even if they do shore up the depth.
This offseason is clearly banking on the draft helping to continue working on the offensive line and Sam Darnold and the Jets offense simply growing and getting better. On the whole, however, the offseason leaves a lot to be desired at this point.
Outside of the day that they traded for Darius Slay and answered the biggest need on their roster after an abysmal 2019 season from their cornerbacks, it feels as if the Eagles aren’t getting the buzz they deserve for the quality offseason they’ve been enjoying. Not only do they have a true No. 1 cornerback now but they’ve gotten even better on the defensive line with Javon Hargrave while making some solid signings elsewhere on defense to fill out the roster.
The one area where people would point to the Eagles right now is that they are still hurting in terms of their wide receiver group. However, answering the need at cornerback and at least getting a veteran in Jatavis Brown at linebacker means that can easily be addressed come the draft. In terms of shoring up a defense that hurt them at times in 2019, though, the Eagles have made their move and done it well.
