NFL Free Agency 2020: Grades for every team after first wave
After making the AFC Championship Game last year once Ryan Tannehill took over, the Titans locked up their quarterback to a four-year, $118 million deal while tagging Derrick Henry, keeping the core intact. That led to them letting Jack Conklin walk, however, while they re-signed Dennis Kelly to seemingly replace him at right tackle. They also gave Vic Beasley Jr. a one-year prove-it deal that could pay off.
The big questionable move the Titans made, however, was trading Jurrell Casey to the Broncos for only a seventh-round pick. It was clearly a cap-clearing move by Tennessee but, as of now, it hurts their grade. If it’s part of the plan, however, to land a player like Jadeveon Clowney, then their grade will undoubtedly improve when that happens as the Casey trade will make much more sense.
New Redskins head coach Ron Rivera wasted little time in clearing the roster of some big-name components, releasing Josh Norman, Jordan Reed and Paul Richardson (along with Montae Nicholson amidst awful off-field circumstances). Meanwhile, they’ve made some high-profile moves.
Washington signed cornerback Kendall Fuller to a big four-year deal after placing the franchise tag on Brandon Scherff. Furthermore, they traded for quarterback Kyle Allen while also landing some key role players such as Peyton Barber, Sean Davis and Thomas Davis.
While these could all be plus moves, it’s hard to still see the direction where Washington is going at this point. Granted, it’s the start of a new regime and that takes time. But as of now, they aren’t failing but they fall below average as well for free agency.
